The Hurricanes have announced the schedule for the Carolina Hurricanes summer hockey camps. The camps, now in their 12th year of operation, will be held in early August at the RecZone, the Hurricanes’ official practice facility, and will include appearances by Hurricanes players and coaches.
The camp will be organized with two instructional sessions for players, and an instructional session targeted specifically for goaltenders. The first week, from August 2 through August 6th, will be a developmental camp intended for players with three or fewer years of hockey experience. The developmental camp will focus on power skating and overall skill development.
The second week, August 9th through August 13th, features the elite-level camp, targeted at more advanced players looking to take their games to the next level. With intense on-ice instruction, the elite week should help any travel hockey player prepare for the upcoming season through rigorous skating and skill development drills. These on ice-drills are coupled with an off-ice training component.
Goalie camps will also be held during the second week of the hockey school. The week will include camps for goaltenders 10 and under as well as a separate camp for goaltenders 11 and older. Goaltender camps are run by Head Goaltending Instructor Bill Horn, former goaltender at Western Michigan University and 1986 draft pick by the Hartford Whalers.
The Carolina Hurricanes Summer Hockey camps are led by Carolina Hurricanes Youth and Amateur Coordinator Paul Strand, Duke University Head Coach Brent Selman, and Dave Hunter, instructor of our camps for the last few years and childhood friend of Carolina Hurricanes Associate Head Coach Ron Francis who currently lives, coaches, and runs camps in New England. With vast hockey experience on the staff, including former professional players, current college and high-level amateur coaches and junior hockey players, your child will experience the highest level of coaching at the Carolina Hurricanes summer camp.
